Happy 7th Birthday Aiden - March 2009

Aiden has been anxiously awaiting his 7th birthday. I think he was more excited about being able to have a party this year. We didn't do parties for anyone last year due to saving for our holiday to America.

When he told me he wanted a "Transformers" cake, my first thought was "How/what do I make for that". As it turns out, his cake was extremely simple - a bought slab, iced partly green with green coloured coconut for grass and crumbled cookie covered cupcakes to represent a mound of dirt. Some Transformer figurines were placed around the cake and there you have it. Aiden loved it.

Lego was again a hit - loves it, especially his Star Wars Lego.

Chillaxing in the Park - March 2009

Having a park in your local neighbourhood is an advantage at times - especially when the kids are driving me mental. This particular day we got some hamburgers from the local takeaway shop and headed to the park for a bit of fun.

It was nice just watching the kids play and laze in the shade on a hot autumn day.

Camping at Korsmans Landing - February 2009

I must admit that I am NOT a camper. Roughing it is not for me. I do like my home comforts. Putting all this aside, I went camping. I did enjoy myself but so looked forward to having a shower upon returning home.

The weekend was spent either in the boat skiing, tubing or wake boarding. If there wasn't room in the boat we were in the water. The kids loved it, although Aiden and Campbell were afraid to get into the boat. They were happy spending their time in the water. Chelsea on the other hand, well she is a dare devil. Good on her I say.

Annette and Ronnie's Wedding - February 7, 2009

On a VERY hot February afternoon, Annette and Ronnie were married. It was a lovely day, despite the heat.

Chelsea, Shaylie and Saskia were beautiful little Bridesmaids and did the job perfectly.

Fun at Vedauwoo - January 2009

On our last day in Laramie before heading back to Australia, we spent some time at Vedauwoo. Apart from the very cold wind, it was a fun time.

After our Vedauwoo adventures, we had lunch at Applebys - mmmmm Applebys. It was most pleasant to be out of the wind and we all had such a laugh at Kathryn partaking of everyones meals, as well as her own. In her defence, she was pregnant and eating for two!

Snow Time Fun

Whilst in Denver it snowed. We spent some time playing in it. The kids had so much fun. Aiden kept telling Will to knock him over so he could face plant in the snow. Campbell was even sliding down the back garden area on his bottom and had no problem with the snow - (a marked improvement from when we went sledding).

We spent a few days in Denver at Cory's parents place. While there we took the kids to the Wildlife Experience Museum and the Children's Museum.

Both these museums are interactive. The kids had fun seeing how various creatures work, got to pretend to be firemen, work in a grocery store, and generally have a good time.

Christmas Day

I know I am a little late updating with some Christmas pictures - better late than never don't they say!

We had a great Christmas morning. The kids waited patiently to open their presents and had so much fun doing so. It was a bit of a low key event this year (present wise) as we travelled so far to come and share Christmas with the Kathryn, Cory and Cade.

The morning was spent playing with all the new gifts, while the afternoon was spent eating and resting.

It was a very quiet day considering there were four kids in the apartment.

A Lost Tooth

We went out to dinner at a Mexican Restaurant and Aiden's tooth finally fell out. He had a bet with Kathryn that if it fell out by Christmas Day then Aiden could throw snowballs at Kathryn.

Sledding

We spent an afternoon sledding with Kathryn, Cory, Cade and some friends of their's. It was really fun but very cold.

Campbell was a little reluctant to play at the start. We had to slowly edge our way up the mountain. Chelsea, on the other hand was a dare devil. Didn't have to coax her into anything - she loved it. Aiden wanted to sled with Cory all the time. Campbell had a turn but had to walk half way down the mountain first.

Yes, I even had some turns. I was a little scared at first but had a great time sledding.

The snow was really powdery so it was hard to make snowballs. We threw and kicked snow at each other instead.

It was a fun afternoon.

Lunch with the Anderson's - Monday, 15 December 2008

We flew into Denver, Colorado where Kathryn, Cory and Cade were waiting to pick us up. The plane landed early but had to wait on the ground for about 50 minutes for another plane to move before we could disembark.

We were all so exicited to be spending some time with the Anderson's and were so looking forward to it.

We stopped off for some lunch at Red Robin where the kids had some fun playing.

Very First Snowball ... EVER!

We left Williams on Sunday morning to head back to Flagstaff in order to catch a bus to Phoenix.

While waiting for our shuttle, Aiden made his very first snowball. He was so proud of himself. He put it in his coat as he wanted to keep it - not realising it would melt!

He was most disappointed when Will threw it to the ground and it smashed.

The Grand Canyon - Saturday, 13 December 2008

We had a very early start on Friday - our flight to Phoenix, Arizona left at 6.45 am!!! At the airport we were told that Greyhound Buses travelled to Williams. They didn't. Fanbloodytastic.

After spending the good part of 4 hours waiting for a bus, we travelled to Flagstaff and then caught a taxi to Williams. It was snowing while we were in the taxi!!

Saturday morning we caught a train to the Grand Canyon - it was FREEZING!!! We had to run to catch the train and as it was so windy and cold, and due to the altitude, it was very hard to run. I looked a sight, my mascara had run and I looked like Morticia from the Adamms Family.

The train ride was a few hours. It was quite interesting as we had a guide who pointed out different historical facts and features along the way. We were also entertained by a performer who sang old Country songs.

The Grand Canyon was as beautiful as I remembered. It was such a windy and cold day but that didn't ruin the beauty of the day (although the kids may disagree). I must admit, it was nice to return to the train for the return journey home.

Disneyland - Wednesday, 10 and Thursday, 11 December 2008

We spent two long days at Disneyland. There is so much to see and do. We had some great rides and some not so great rides - well the kids anyway. One in particular had Chelsea and Aiden screaming and howling - Campbell was too short to ride.

We rode roller coasters, trains, flying elephants, merry-go-round, 4 wheelers - so much to remember. We probably managed to ride around 2/3 of the rides. We met Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, Woody and Jessie. It was so much fun and a great memory to keep/have.

The upside of having such long days, the kids slept in every morning - fantastic.

Each night ended with a fire works display. We had a great viewing point - right from our Hotel room.

Disneyland Hotel - Tuesday, 9 December 2008 (Again)

As we crossed a different time zone, we arrived in the USA before we left Australia. After checking in to our Hotel, having a rest and having a much needed shower, we wondered around our Hotel Complex and surrounds.

After exploring, we found somewhere to have a late lunch/early dinner at the Rainforest Cafe. The decor reflects a rainforest and has leaves and animals surrounding you. A "thunderstorm" is experienced every half hour. It was quite fun. Aiden wanted to be the photographer so he wondered around and took a few shots. We left with very full bellies.

Between our Hotel and Disneyland entry, there is a mall type area which has a lot of shops that we spent some time visiting, (especially the Lego store). After a Lego purchase, the boys were anxious to go back to the room to build their Lego. Chelsea and I continued on shopping (as women do) without the boys.

The sun goes down very early (around 4.30 pm) and once down, the temperature drops quite a bit. Not too bad, just throw a jumper on and you are warm enough.

The Flight

Much to my surprise, the kids travelled really well. Their were a few moments of musical chairs but generally things weren't too bad at all. Campbell asked 10 minutes into a 14 hour flight if we were there yet. I wish!

An hour out of Los Angeles we experienced some turbulance. Chelsea and Campbell both were vomitting. Campbell wasn't to bad - only had a few vomits. Chelsea on the other hand - I lost count. I must admit, I did feel a little off myself but I was feeling this way prior to the turbulance hitting.

Chelsea still wasn't feeling the best after getting of the plane and thought she was going to be sick while we were trying to get through Customs. She did vomit in the Shuttle that took us to our Hotel but she managed to confine it to the paper towel that Will found. I guess we were fortunate that we were leaving the Shuttle and didn't have to deal with the smell of vomit - NICE.

Day of Departure - Tuesday, 9 December 2008

The day has finally arrived where we get to venture on our much awaited trip to the USA. All are very excited. I am hoping the kids travel really well.

Christmas With the Wyborn's

As we are spending Christmas with the Anderson's in America this year, we celebrated an early Christmas with Will's family. It was pretty simple and easy - cold meat and salad for lunch, opening of presents and then enjoying everyones company.

We got an 8 person tent as a present so in the afternoon the men (with some "help" from the kids) put it up. A storm was brewing with hail and wind. The tent stood tall and dry. Great. It was the intention to have all the kids (4) and the two men spend the nigh in there while the women "camped" in the comfort of their own beds! Chelsea and Aiden spent the night in the own bed. Aiden said it was uncomfortable and Chelsea - I think she just wanted to sleep with Granny.

What was I doing 10 years ago?

I was 25 and working at the same place I still work today - must be a great employee!! I had met Will, although we weren't (back) together until the end of the year. My first nephew, Kallan, was born. I lived with him prior to his birth and for a few months afterwards.

Chelsea has celebrated her 8th birthday a few times - last weekend with Gran and Grandfather, yestereday was lunch at McDonald's with her cousins, and today with family at home.

Today started off with pancakes for breakfast ...

... followed by a day of playing with her presents. Tonight for dinner she has requested her favourite - chicken breast wrapped in bacon with vegetables (don't know if the vegetables are the favourite bit, but the chicken definetly is).

We had a mini birthday celebration with Granny and Grandfather this past weekend as they will be away for Chelsea's birthday.

So You Think You Can Dance ...

Last Tuesday night Chelsea, Karina, Shaylie and I had a girls night at the So You Think You Can Dance Australian tour concert. It was great. The guys, well let me just say, mmmmmmmm. Why is it that they always have to dance with the shirt either undone or off. Fine by me.

My Week Off Work ...

As the kids are on school holidays, I took some time off work. I had planned a lot of fun activities to do with them - cooking, playing in the park, movies, shopping, etc.

In typical fashion, nothing really eventuated as I. GOT. SICK! I think I caught what Chelsea and Aiden had the previous week ... just didn't have the vomitting thing. Oh how I wish I could've though. I also had a cold.

We did manage to see a movie - Kung Fu Panda and I soldiered on and took them to the shops where they saw a baby animal nursery. There were baby goats, a piglet, ducklings, chicks, guinea pigs and rabbits. The kids loved petting them. I ended up bribing them with a milkshake in order to leave.

I hope they had a great week despite my sickness.

How Much Vomit Can Two Kids Produce ... HEAPS!

It (the vomit) started with Aiden.

On Wednesday morning he was complaining of having a sore tummy. I told him to go and use the bathroom and the next thing I heard was him vomitting. Oh well, a day off work for me (what a shame).

He vomitted again about 1 1/2 hours later and then was fine all day until about 3pm. Yep, vomitted again. That was it until 10.30 pm Thursday night. Up it came - all over his bedroom floor, the lounge room floor, himself and me (thanks Aiden). Luckily we have floor boards and it was relatively easy to clean up, just gross.

Well, Chelsea didn't want to miss out. So she decided to carry on with the vomitting on Friday night. She managed to get to the bathroom for the first session and then ventured to her bedroom. Had she finished vomitting - NO. It went all over her bed, the floor and the wall. Great. Her entire bed had to be stripped and washed, even the pillows. She did a good job. No, actually she did a FANTASTIC job.

The attitudes are back so I figure they are well.

Campbell seemed to escape the sickness - thank goodness!

Migraine, Migraine Go Away, Come Again ... NEVER

I started to get a migraine at work yesterday. It was still there when I woke this morning. I tried to soldier on and went to work. I lasted an hour and a half. I was trying so hard not to vomit and even harder not to cry (sook I know, but migraines hurt).

I came home, put my pj's back on, turned on the electric blanket and crawled into bed and pretty much slept the day away.

I am feeling a little better but still have a groggy and foggy head. We'll see how I feel in the morning.

I am a little bored and feel like blogging but I don't have anything really to blog about. So what can I do? Mind you, I have washing to fold and iron but who wants to do that? Besides, I'm NOT that bored.

Time to Vent!

Why is it that every time we have a "Turner" dinner that there is ALWAYS a drama? Was tonight any different? ... NO!

We had all gathered at Mum's for a bbq dinner to celebrate her birthday and farewell my brother who was on a fly in fly out visit - he is leaving for Perth early tomorrow morning.

The kids were playing fine until they decided to get all mucky in the bog of a yard that Mum has at the moment. Mum asked if we minded the kids getting muddy - yes I did mind whereas one of my sister's didn't. She was happy to wash mud sodden clothes but I wasn't. If I can avoid soaking and have stain free clothing, why not.

That didn't go down to well.

The kids came inside to play "tigers". This ALWAYS leads to wrestling where someone ALWAYS gets hurt. I told them that there was to be no wrestling so did the sister. She really wanted them outside and tried to get them to go back despite me not wanting my kids to. The same sister stated that I had said that the kids couldn't play outside and that I had told them that they had to sit down and be still and quiet. That is what got my back up. I told her that I never said such a thing - all I had said was that there was to be no wrestling.

Did I also mention that she is the "perfect parent" (please note my sarcasim) and I always feel judged by her and another sister. Now I never claim to be the perfect mother - (think PMT week or longer sometimes), but I do have my moments of perfection.

If my sisters happen to read this, I don't know if I apologise, but that is how I am feeling after tonight.

Yesterday Chelsea went to a birthday party - it was Dylan's party, her "boyfriend" from school. They were off to the bowling alley. I had curled Chelsea's pony tale. When she arrived at Dylan's house, he said she "looked like a lady". Oh, how sweet.

A Bonfire!

I have been trying to declutter my home, both inside and out. I had sorted through heaps of papers and rather than throw them in the recycling bin, I asked Will if he could start a little fire and burn them.

Well, his idea of a little fire must vary greatly from mine. He started pulling out all these timber off cuts from near our shed (I didn't know the timber was there - not my domain). We ended up having this huge fire roaring in the backyard.

After dinner (roast lamb and baked veges) we went outside to toast some marshmallows. The fire had calmed down to be just smoldering. The kids had so much fun. Netty and Nanny also joined us in the festivities.

Aiden wasn't so interested in eating the marshmallows, he was far more interested in having flames come off his - such a boy. Campbell was too busy devouring all the gummi bears to enjoy any marshmallows. Chelsea had the best stick for toasting.

Another Campbell Post

Lately it seems as if I only have one child to blog about ... but Campbell was having such a fun time "painting" Nan's ladder. He would fill a jar with water from a bird bath (gross) and then carry it over to the ladder. The paint brush was dunked in the water and then painting would commence. He was even painting his boots at one stage.

Earlier he must have thought that he would be in trouble for having a paint brush as he was coming inside with it hidden behind his back with a really guilty look on his face. Once I realised what the look was for, I told him that he was allowed to play with the brush and his face just lit up. Oh so cute!

Happy 3rd Birthday Campbell

Yesterday was Campbell's 3rd birthday. The day was started with pancakes for breakfast. Campbell devoured his - natuarally as they were covered in shooggie (sugar). He had to lick his plate to make sure that he got every bit of sugar.

He got a new bike. A little bit of frustration was evident as he couldn't move - had to get used to using the pedals instead of being pushed. He also got a few different types of lego - Star Wars, Racers and City, and some PJ's with Buzz Lightyear on them and Campbell is also a bit cashed up with some money he received - time to go shopping.

Lunch was at McDonald's (his request). There was no party this year but lunch was enjoyed with his cousins.

I normally make and decorate a cake for the kids birthdays but as we are not having parties this year, I have been a little, ok very slack, in this area to the point that I even forgot to buy a cake.
Campbell, at 8 pm, asked where his cake was. Oops! Will raced to the shop and found a cake decorated with his two favourite characters out of "Cars". It went down a treat.

How Do I Fold That?

It is common in our home to dump the clean washing on the lounge chair ready for folding. Campbell snuggled up in the washing and fell asleep. I didn't realise he had fallen asleep until I went to fold the washing. How can I fold the washing now?

Chelsea has had several visits to the dentist lately. After her last visit, I allowed her to pick a new toy. (I didn't play favourites ... the boys got a toy each as well). She has been wanting this Barbie for a long time, so I indulged.

Happy 7th Wedding Anniversary

The photos don't do the flowers justice, but this is what I got delivered to work from my lovely husband. (I have actually re-arranged the flowers to put them in a vase). He does listen - tulips are my favourite flower. I bought Will a new whipper snipper (how romantic), but hey, he needed a new one!

The whole family went out for dinner - a very interesting night. We had all finished eating, except for Campbell. I had been saying to Will all evening that I didn't think he was all that well. Will kept saying that he was alright and that he had been fine all day. When Campbell said no to icecream, I knew that something was definitely wrong.

About five minutes later, Campbell started to cough (usually a sign right before the vomit comes). Well the vomit did come, all over the table, floor, Will and Campbell. What was really surprising was that all the other patrons continued to eat while I cleaned up the vomit!!

Needless to say, we probably won't head back there anytime soon!

Campbell often helps himself to biscuits. They are nothing fancy but he likes them. I went into the kitchen and discovered this ...

Busted ... a mouth full of biscuit with a big grin on his face.

Earlier in the evening, I was cooking dinner. I went to check on it and all I heard was "nothing". That was Campbell's response to me entering the kitchen. I hadn't said a thing. He was playing with one of Aiden's toys (very quietly) and thought he must've been in trouble. It was very funny.

Junior Jedi Master

Campbell has a bit of a liking for Star Wars. He would watch all six episodes all day every day if you would let him. (I'm sure his father would, but I can honestly say that I am over Star Wars - although I don't mind building the Star Wars Lego).

He has just recently asked to dress up as a Jedi Master. He clips his light saber to his waistband and borrows Chelsea's knee high black boots that he tucks his pants into - there you have it - Jedi Master.

Doesn't he look cute - don't know if a real Jedi Master would be lazing around like this though!

Would You PULL That Tooth Out (Please)!!!

What can I say but "oh my goodness". This tooth has been ready to come out for months. It has been hanging by a thread. Chelsea will twist the tooth and leave it backwards. If she just twisted in completely around, it would be out. She wanted me to pull it out one night ... what a drama ... needless to say, it remained.

As we are saving our hard earned $$$ for our trip to America, the kids were told that they wouldn't be having birthday parties this year. Despite this, Aiden still got spoilt. I was expecting him to just get a present from us, but the aunties, uncles, nan, grans, etc had a different idea. Here are a few shots of some of his gifts. A Trip to the Sydney Aquarium

Aiden has had a fascination with sea life/creatures since he was young (and he is so old now at the age of 6) and has been asking for a long time to go to the Sydney Aquarium. A trip was planned and Gran, Grandfather, Aunty Peta and Zac came along as well.

Getting there is a story in itself. We all loaded into two cars to travel to Manly so we could catch the ferry to Circular Quay. Our day had bearly started and Chelsea had developed blisters on her heels (bad choice of shoes). Once at Circular Quay I found a Chemist to buy some bandaids. After some quick "medical" attention we were off walking to Darling Harbour. The walking was not such a good idea with a two year old that wanted to be carried and then walk and then carried, then walk ... get the idea! Chelsea and Aiden both had periods of being piggy backed as well. Anyway, we finally made it to the Aquarium.

We spent quite a few hours looking at all the sea life. The kids seemed to really enjoy themselves and loved seeing all the sea animals. Campbell was quite captivated at times and loved to get up close to the creatures in the under water tunnells.

The trip back was more eventful than the trip over. Campbell was so tired that he fell asleep on my shoulder so I had to carry him the entire walk back to catch the ferry - over a 30 minute walk. It was great!!! ... a dead weight on my shoulder.

It was a great day irrespective of all the piggy backing, carrying of kids, etc that we had to do.

Easter Morning at the Wyborns ...

I know I'm a little behind in posting some Easter pictures, but better late than never. Along with a bunch of easter eggs, Chelsea and Aiden got a little Ipod which they had "earned" for several months prior for good behaviour. Campbell got some Star Wars lego instead. The kids enjoyed their morning feasting on chocolate and listening to the Ipod's. Are you a bad parent if you allow your kids to eat chocolate for breakfast?

That time of year again ... easter hat parade. I made three "chooks". They were actually pretty easy to make - a bit of felt, some feathers and two googly eyes. After I finished making them, the lounge room looked like I had been plucking chooks - nothing a good vacuum wouldn't fix. The kids thought they were pretty fantastic.

A Cardboard Box

How much fun can a kid get out of a cardboard box? Heaps. Much to my dismay, the kids love to keep an empty box. I wouldn't normally mind, but as the kids love to keep the big boxes, and due to having a small house, it doesn't leave much room for anything else ... outside is where the box belongs. Anyway, here is Aiden and Isaac (cousin) playing in the box.

Kid Free Night!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I love my kids but I LOVE a kid free night. Actually I am kid and husband free. Will has gone to a concert in Sydney with Mark (brother in law). I had planned to have a nice tea with the kids and even bought some bribes ... I mean munchies. Mum rang and asked if I wanted a kid free night ... mmm let me think about that - absolutely. So off I packed the kids and here I am. I even forgot to pack the munchies (honestly I did) so I HAD to eat the cheezels.

Happy Birthday To Me! - Our Shoal Bay Weekend

It has become a bit of a tradition in our family to head to Shoal Bay for a weekend in February to celebrate Peta (sister in law) and my birthday. We have the same birthday - Peta is a few years older than me.

We travelled to the Bay after school and work was done with on the Friday. We were hoping for fine weather for the weekend as it had been raining the whole week prior. Friday night it poured. A few board games were packed along with numerous DVD's. There were a few down pours of rain on Saturday but a swim at the beach was managed along with a play in the playground.

The kids took their scooters and had a great time "scooting" around the park, down the street and just about anywhere they could.

Sunday was a much nicer day. We were able to walk down the street and partake in our traditional milkshake. More time was spent at the beach where the kids were able to swim in the near sub zero water temperature. The trip home was very quiet as we had three very tired and slightly sunburt kids. A good weekend was had by all. More pictures are shown below.

Oh, Happy Days

What a wonderful Sunday was had at the Wyborn house. Can you detect my sarcasim?? The kids had an afternoon of swimming (on Saturday). They all went to bed without a problem - Aiden did have a headache though.

Chelsea woke several times during the night only to be sent back to bed (crying). Campbell woke a few times for a toilet stop. Chelsea and Campbell both woke around 7 am (which was way too early for a Sunday).

From that moment there was a "take it in turns" situation involving a lot of vomit. Campbell's sickness lasted the morning. Chelsea, however, continued for over 24 hours and ended up with a trip to hospital. We were a little worried as she wasn't keeping any fluids down. She seemed a lot better on her return from the hospital and continued to improve.

Everyone is back to normal. I know this sounds terrible, but it was pleasantly quiet when they were sick ... do you understand what I am trying to say?

A Snake Wrangler?

Late last year, Chelsea and Aiden went on a school excursion to the Australian Reptile Park. At the Animal Demonstration Chelsea got selected to hold a baby python (Bart Man). Bart Man started in her hands and then slithered up Chelsea and ended up draped around her neck. Chelsea was so brave and didn't even look scared or bothered that she had a snake around her. She looked like an expert who had done it numerous times before. All the teachers made remarks about how brave she was.

It is so rewarding to see the kids doing well at school. They both got an award at the School Presentation Day. Chelsea's was for citizenship, effort and achievement. Aiden's award was for consistent effort and achievement in all areas. The standard has been set - keep up the great work!

It is almost impossible to get a nice photo of all the kids together. Chelsea is a bit of a "poser" so there is always a nice photo of her. Aiden on the other hand tends to have a problem looking at the camera. Campbell ... well the results speak for themselves.
